We examine the effects of telecommunications infrastructure on economic growth in 15 countries of Latin America (LA) for the period 1995-2016. We examine the effects of telecommunications infrastructure on economic growth in 15 countries of Latin America (LA) for the period 1995-2016. The results confirm that there is a positive relationship between economic growth and electricity access, internet accessibility, and ICT imports. These results provide evidence to conclude that telecommunications infrastructure contributes to economic growth for LA countries.
Se examinan los efectos de la infraestructura de las telecomunicaciones en el crecimiento económico de América Latina para el periodo 1995-2006. Usando un panel dinámico y estático, se estima la relación agregada de crecimiento económico con acceso a la electricidad, personas usando internet e importaciones de Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC), mientras se controla con otras variables macro-económicas. Los resultados confirman que existe una relación positiva entre el creci-miento económico y las variables señaladas. Estos resultados proveen evidencia de que la infraestructura de telecomunicaciones contribuye al crecimiento en América Latina.
